• Excess: We will have a look at 'scandalous' poetry that touches upon taboos such as the direct display of sexuality and was therefore received as shocking, particularly for a prudish Victorian audience.
  

• Drugs: 'love is a drug' is a common phrase. In this respect, we will analyse in how far that is true for modern and contemporary love poetry. We will take gender roles into consideration as well as a diversity of poets. Love poetry cannot always be solely reduced to an affectionate display of emotions addressing a man or a woman or in fact a human at all.
  

• Rock 'n' Roll: Poetry is directly connected with musicality. Song lyrics are the best example for that. However, not only music portrays the melodious focus, but also poetry slams play on rhythmical concepts. We will have a look at contemporary pop-culture and examine how poetry interferes with our lives every day in forms of slogans, films, music and slams.
