  • Advanced Physical Geography I & II (strongly recommended)

  • Inter-/Transdisciplinary Perspective (strongly recommended)

  • at least 10 ECTS credits in Advanced Methods (strongly recommended).

Inhalt:

The course is a guide to project planning in the context of specializing on a research field, which will lead to the topic of the Master's thesis. Visits of research colloquium talks complement the research-orientated nature of the course. Since the objectives rely on group discussions and coordination meetings, attendance is compulsory.

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

Students

  • identify their major field of interest in coordination with a lecturer of Physical Geography.

  • access the state of the art in this field from the peer-reviewed scientific literature.

  • engage in research discussions through participation in research colloquium talks.

  • apply the knowledge to design and plan their Master's thesis research project.

  • practice the scientific methods that will enable the implementation of the thesis project.

Literatur:

Accompanying reading will be decided at the beginning of the module with regard to the specific research topic of the student.

weitere Erläuterungen:
Research report, 20-50 pages, and reflexive discussion (research plan), 15-30 minutes Participation in at least three research colloquium talks is compulsory. These talks comprise current research work at the FAU Institute of Geography as well as lectures by external experts. By participating in the research colloquium, students gain additional insight into selected examples from research and work areas of social and natural science practice beyond the preparation of their Master's thesis. The participation is documented in a colloquium pass.
