Empfohlene Voraussetzungen:
Inhalt:
Lecture:
Immune system revision: immune reaction, cellular and humoral adaptive and innate immune defence system
Process pipelines for antibody (AB) production: polyclonal, monoclonal, recombinant Abs, biosystems and bioreactor
Downstream processing of Abs
Diagnostic and therapeutic AB formulations
Vaccine Technologies
Genetic immune modulation technologies Crspr/Cas9
Manipulation of immune cells and host immune mediators for targeted therapies in Personalized Medicine, e.g. in cancer, HIV, auto-immune disease, malaria, leukaemia
Organ transplantation: organ rejection through immune incompatibilities, immune-suppression, biotechnology strategies
Recombinant production of immune-modulatory signaling molecules
New trends in diagnostic immune-technologies (e.g. label-free point-of-care systems, blood analyser, etc.)
Nano-immuno-technology
Seminar (exercise course):
The seminar will be designed in a scenario-group approach where students shall analyse a scenario, define the problem, research for respective solutions, evaluate and reflect on them and present to the class
Lernziele und Kompetenzen:
Students shall
learn and understand the concepts of innate versus adaptive immune reaction
comprehend ways to manipulate immune system reaction through humoral and cellular means
embrace the relationship between genetic diversity and immunologi-cal compatibility and be able to depict strategies for genetic manipula-tion to enforce such compatibility
be able to understand the concept of Personalized Medicine in de-signing tailored immune-strategies for selected diseases and name strategies to target immune cells, cancer cells and pathogens
be able to critically evaluate the technological advances over the indi-vidual benefits and risks associated with immune biotechnology approaches
