- Inhalt
- This lecture course will provide an introduction into classical theories for fluids of interacting particles.
We will consider simple liquids, such as water, but also
complex fluids: mixtures of small molecules and much larger particles.
Building from the framework of statistical physics,
I will discuss microscopic theories for
time-independent systems and their static properties.
Fluids, and complex fluids in particular, can be inhomogeneous due to
external fields such as gravity or an electric field.
The description of the resulting inhomogeneous fluids requires special techniques.
Finally, both microscopic and macroscopic approaches
to the dynamics of fluids will be covered.

Brief revision of general statistical physics
Overview of simple and complex fluids
Homogeneous fluids: integral equation theory
Inhomogeneous fluids: density functional theory
Macroscopic dynamics: Navier-Stokes equation
Microscopic dynamics: Liouville, Boltzmann and Vlasov equations
