The seminar "Materials beyond the single particle picture: from Mott insulators to unconventional superconductors” focusses on reviews of real materials whose phenomena are beyond the reach of effective single particle theories. Its topics can be subcategorized into four blocks. The initial seminar will review methods and models after which we will cover three major material families. While the first block is fixed, the order of the subsequent material-blocks is flexible as they can be treated independently. If wished for, many of the listed items can be expanded into more than one presentation. I) Ab initio methods, effective models, and methods for correlated materials
• From density functional theory (DFT) to effective (multiband) Hubbard models
• Solving effective models: Perturbation theory and beyond
II) Transition metal oxides
• Cuprate high Tc superconductors (aka the holy grail of SC theory)
• Nickelates (the most recent member among the unconventional SC materials)
• Ruthenates (correlations with a twist: Hund's metals with spin-orbit-coupling)
III) Heavy Fermion superconductors (The first unconventional SCs)
• Cerium based compounds: From RKKY to the Kondo regime
IV) Unconventional superconductivity in unconventional materials
• Organic superconductors
• Ad-atom lattices on semiconductor-surfaces
• Cold atoms - experimental realization of theoretical models
