1. Mathematical and numerical background in materials simulation;
2. Molecular dynamics;
3. Monte Carlo methods;
4. Kinetic Monte Carlo method;
5. Finite element method;
6. Phase field method;
7. Lattice and network models.

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

The students

  • gain an overview of the problem of materials simulation across scales

  • acquire knowledge on the general aspects of both atomistic and continuum modeling

  • gain experience in the practical application of these methods to real problems of materials mechanics modeling.

  • learn techniques of programming and data analysis of relevance in materials science

  • which includes theoretical content and hands-on experience
