Inhalt:

The course covers an introduction to loop quantum gravity. The following main topics will be discussed in the lecture:
• Motivation for Quantum Gravity
• Quantisation of systems with constraints
• Brief introduction to General Relativity (Hamiltonian, Lagrange formalism)
• Formulation of General Relativity in terms of Ashtekar variables
• Kinematical Hilbert space of loop quantum gravity
• Geometrical Operators
• Quantum Einstein equations in loop quantum gravity
• Applications of loop quantum gravity to cosmology

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

Students

• comprehend, outline and explain general relativity and introductory topics in loop quantum gravity, as well as some applications to cosmology.

May be applied to specialisation 'Theoretical physics' in the physics master program starting winter term 2017/18.
