- The central nervous system is a biological structure with high temporal resolution. For example, when we are controlling a muscle to prevent slipping or catching a falling object, the CNS must generate intelligent behaviour at the millisecond time scale. Therefore, for an accurate prediction of these events we must record from relevant neural structures with high temporal resolution. Electrophysiological recordings and electrical stimulation of the nervous system provide a unique framework to study and control the behaviour of the CNS.
