Contents
This lecture course addresses the ways in which the international system is organized to produce norms, rules and patterns of behaviour among international actors. Key questions include: Who creates international organizations, why and when? The approach is both theoretical and empirical. The role, functioning, achievement and shortcomings of international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, and the International Monetary Fund will be critically discussed. The human factor is at the centre of analysis. International organizations are created and ruled by human begins to manage interactions among other human beings. Many issues are not only technical, but also moral.
