Inhalt:

The seminar covers the following topics:

• The review and publishing process for scientific publications

• Classification and characteristics of different scientific publications (thesis, journal article, proceedings paper, etc.)

• How to structure scientific publications (introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion)

• How to write title and abstract

• How to write the introduction

• Presentation of materials and methods

• How to present and discuss results

• Efficient tables and graphs

• Styles and conventions for citing scientific literature

• Language issues in scientific writing

• Design a scientific poster

• How to generate a CV

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

After the successful participation at the module, students are able to contribute to scientific publications and to individually compose scientific articles. They know the required scientific skills and conventions, and are able to select and apply them in practice. The participants can analyse and review peer publications with respect to scientific writing criteria.
