The "Didactics of Informatics" was newly founded as a section of the Computer Science Department 2 in April 2005 by filling the professorship with Prof. Dr. Torsten Brinda. In the years before, several two-years courses for post-study Informatics teacher qualification within a federal government crash program called "Sofortprogramms Informatik am Gymnasium – Nachqualifikation von Lehrkräften (SIGNAL)" were carried out by deputized teachers. The last one of these courses ends in the academic year 2005/06.

Central working fields of the group

  • the didactic education of Informatics student teachers and

  • didactic research in Informatics.

Caused by the new foundation and the filling of the first assistant positions with deputized teachers in spring 2006, the teaching and research field is still under construction.

Teaching (in German)

  • Didactics of Informatics I,

  • Didactics of Informatics II,

  • Theory of Informatics for Teachers,

  • E-Learning,

  • Information systems from a didactic point of view,

  • Didactic school labs and related seminars.

Focus of research

The overall research goal of the "Didactics of Informatics" group is the further development of Informatics education, particularly with regard to school level. From an Informatics point of view conceptions for software-based learning and teaching aids for multiple educational scenarios and the structuring of learing and teaching scenarios are of concern. Both require knowledge about the cognitive processes of learners in Informatics. The research focal points of the group can be assigned to these three fields:

I.) Cognitive processes in Informatics

  • Development and theoretical foundation of educational standards for secondary Informatics education (exercises, competence models, test methods)

  • Analysis and evaluation of secondary Informatics education

II.) Learning and teaching aids of Informatics

  • Conception, implementation and evaluation of interactive, multimedia learning and teaching systems

  • conception, implementation and evaluation of learning promotional infrastructures

III.) Learning and teaching scenarios of Informatics

  • Development and evaluation of blended learning conceptions for secondary Informatics education

  • Development and evaluation of conception of Informatics teacher education

Cooperation partners

  • FU Berlin, Didactics of Informatics
  • TU Munich, Didactics of Informatics

  • Uni Muenster, Didactics of Informatics

  • University of Paderborn, Didactics of Informatics

  • University of Potsdam, Didactics of Informatics

  • University of Siegen, Didactics of Informatics

Conferences and workshops

From Sept. 24th to 25th 2009, the Professorship of Didactics of Informatics hosted a scientific workshop on Didactics of Informatics, s. http://ddi.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/FachgruppeDDI2008/index.xml . After this workshop an International Doctoral Colloquium on Didactics of Informatics followed from Sept. 25th to 26th, s. http://ddi.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/IDDI/2008/ .
