SFB603 - TP C7:Adaptative methods for the computation and visualization of mechatronic sensors and actuators

The goal of this project is the development of a Computer-Aided-Engineering (CAE) tool for the analysis, the design and the optimization of mechatronic sensors and actuators (e.g. capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers, piezoelectric stack actuators for injection valves in common rail diesel engines, controlled capacitive acceleration sensors) by using multigrid techniques for the numerical simulation of these coupled field problems as well as the interactive visualization of multimode simulation data applying hierarchical methods.
The results of such simulations of coupled field problems are scalar- and vector fields. The values can be defined for the volume elements separating the simulation space or the corner points. Beside static simulations describing the state of a single time step there are also simulations for a period of time over several time steps, whereas the single saved time steps have not to be equidistant from each over. For the visualization of those data sets there are a many challenges, for instance how to show the data with different methods simultaneous, how to make it interactively even for larger data sets without exploit the available memory and computation resources to much. The new available features of the latest generation of graphics hardware are hereby of special interest.
