Single-Shot Structured Light

Structured Light is a family of techniques for three-dimensional scanning of surfaces. It is used for example in the entertainment industry for movie productions and computer games, in medicine for patient positioning or surgery planning, in manufacturing for quality control and reverse engineering. Further areas are heritage conservation, documentation of crime scenes and security applications.

Single-Shot Structured Light is characterized by the fact that only a single image of the scene suffices to compute 3D data. Thus it is possible to measure moving objects with little effort. Hardware requirements for Single-Shot systems are very low. The simple setup consisting of a camera and a static projector without moving parts offers great miniaturization potential and great reliability together with a cost advantage. Existing Single-Shot techniques were suitable mostly for untextured and flat objects. The goal of the project is to increase the robustness of Single-Shot Structured Light against environment influences and to provide reliable and accurate 3D reconstructions also for less cooperative surfaces. The project is a cooperation with Siemens CT T HW2.
