Registration of 3-D data sets and 2-D fluoroscopic sequences for application in electro-physiology ablation procedures

The goal of our research is to develop a method to fuse a three-dimensional data set of the heart (C-arm-CT, CT, MRI) with two-dimensional fluoroscopic sequences as acquired during electrophysiology procedures. A typical clinical application is the treatment of atrial fibrillation by catheter ablation in the left atrium. The fusion of a three-dimensional heart model with fluoroscopic images facilitates image-based navigation and the display of further information within a consistent anatomical context (augmented fluoroscopy). This method is to be seamlessly integrated into the existing therapy workflow.

Our research focuses on: -Initial registration of a three-dimensional heart data set to two-dimensional fluoroscopic images at the beginning of a procedure -Re-registration of the data set after patient motion
