Automatic Objective Analysis of Speech Disorders Resulting from Epithelium Cancer of the Oral Cavity Epithelium cancer of the oral cavity rank among the ten most frequent malignant illnesses of humans.
They are treated multimodal with surgical, radio and chemotherapeutic procedures.
The morphologic changes which develop in the consequence of the treatment
cause functional restrictions, which concern speaking and food intake.
So far exists no of the examiner independent method, which permits to quantify kind and extent a speech disorder objectively and reproducibly.
Thus there is no reliable measure for the evaluation of the quality of speaking after the therapy of epithelium cancer of the oral cavity.
The basis for the indication for a certain variant of the multimodal therapy and control of therapy success regarding speech ability
is not based on objective and comparable measurements so far.
In the project this diagnostic gap is closed by the establishment of a standardized and objective method with employs automatic speech
recognition for this kind of evaluation. | Project manager: PD Dr. med. Maria Schuster,
