Contents
This seminar deals with the interrelationship between cultural heritage and processes of constructing cultural identity. Based on a critical-reflective examination of the UNESCO World Heritage Program, the notion ‘cultural heritage’ shall be addressed and discussed in the interstice between tradition, construction and reappropriation. Through analyzing processes and practices of cultural heritage, the students will reflect on the educational relevance of cultural heritage and, at the same time, critically deal with its normative implications as a political concept and as a mechanism of cultural stabilization. A special focus on cultural and educational theories of identity will form an important basis for this endeavor.
