This lecture course offers a comprehensive survey of the major canonical writers of the postcolonial novel. Following a brief survey of influential theoretical models (by E. Said, G.C. Spivak, H.K. Bhabha, and others) used to discuss postcolonial literature, the course will then discuss novels written by authors from Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, and indigenous communities in North America. Offering a broad survey of important writers and books, the lecture will also offer detailed readings of individual novels.
