Contents
The lecture aims to provide practical experience in the usage of finite element simulation (linear elasticity) and structural optimization. To this end we use the academic tool CFS++ developed at the FAU and TU-Wien. The theoretical background (FEM, optmization, ...) is provided only in a level necessary for this course. This lecture is not meant as a replacement for the particular basic courses. The lecture is mainly designed (but not restricted) for Computational Engineering students and takes place in a computer lab.

The main topics are:

  • numerical experiments with FEM and linear algebra

  • automated parameter studies with Python

  • introduction to structural optimization

  • solving standard problems in structural optimization

There are weekly homework with significant work load and a final individual project a the end of the course. Working in groups is possible. The final grade is composed of final project and oral exam. Passing homework is mandatory.
The exercise hours are meant to provide support for the homework and are not mandatory.
