Die Vorlesung führt zuerst in die Thermodynamik von Ionen (Debye-Hückel-Theorie) ein. Danach werden die Besonderheiten der Thermodynamik in Poren besprochen. Aufbauend darauf werden Filtrationsverfahren und die technische Chromatographie als Trennverfahren für Komponentenmischungen besprochen. Es folgen Extraktionsverfahren unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Wasser-Wasser-Extraktion. Die Vorlesung endet mit der Vorstellung in der Industrie umgesetzter Verfahren.

The separation of biological macromolecules differs in some features from the separation of technical chemical products:

• Biomolecules often carry charges

• The temperature of decomposition is low

• The 3D-structure can be important

The lecture introduces first in thermodynamcis: ions (Debye-Huckel-theory) and pores. The processes of interest are: filtration, technical chromatography, aqueous extraction and membranes. The lecture ends with an overview about the industrally applied processes.
