Inhalt:

The next generation of wireless cellular networks will have to support various multimedia services with heterogeneous quality of service (QoS) requirements. Due to spectrum scarcity and a limited power budget, efficient radio resource allocation is mandatory in 4G networks. The key task of radio resource allocation design is to make the best use of limited resources and to ensure sufficient QoS in time-varying channel conditions.
The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the impact and interplay of the various control mechanisms employed in state-of-the-art wireless networks. The course covers the fundamentals of resource allocation (including the principles of radio coverage in cellular systems and basics of radio network planning), innovative algorithms for efficient radio interface utilization, and application examples.
Practical resource allocation algorithm design problems such as adaptive power and rate control and base station coordinated scheduling will be discussed. Furthermore, different optimization techniques used for resource allocation will be covered. The course also studies different advanced design examples to illustrate the versatility of resource allocation.
