- Inhalt
- This seminar will try to introduce the students to some of the most outstanding examples of postmodern literature in the last decades of the 20th century. After briefly summarizing the major achievements of the most important representatives of modernist literature we will analyse the typical features of postmodern 'novels'. The list of topics we will discuss comprises "historiographic metafiction", "history", "truth", "identity", and "ethical thinking". The following list of books should be read by every participant: Peter Ackroyd, Chatterton (1987) and English Music (1992), Julian Barnes Flaubert's Parrot (1984) and History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters (1989) (Selections) and Graham Swift, Waterland (1983).
