- Nic Pizzolatto’s True Detective has recently once again confirmed that the American South is a very strange place. To a high degree, this is also reflected in its literature. In this seminar, we will analyze the main characteristics of this kind of literature. We will begin our discussion with a detailed reading of William Faulkner’s masterpiece, The Sound and the Fury (1929). Then we will discuss two contemporary southern novels, Daniel Woodrell’s Winter’s Bone (2006) and Pizzolatto’s Galveston (2010).
