Contents
This seminar deals with the culture and literature of Latinos in North America. Historically, the diverse ethnic groups lumped together as "Latinos" or "Hispanics" created cultural and literary products in North America well before the founding of the United States. Latino Literature and Culture incorporates the voices of the conqueror and the conquered, the revolutionary and the reactionary, the native and the uprooted or landless. We will attempt to interpret and understand different aspects of this diverse and at times contradictory cultural production and we are going to discuss a transnational literature that proclaims a sense of place in the United States while it also questions borders, a literature that transcends ethnicity and race, while striving for a Chicano, Nuyorican, Cuban American (etc.), or just Hispanic or Latino identity.
