Inhalt:
This module forms the foundation of two additional modules on medical physics in radiation oncology in the summer term. The introductory lecture starts with the basics of the physics of interaction of ionizing radiation with matter and resulting effects in radiation biology including aspects of radiation safety. The focus lies in the workflow of a radiation oncology treatment which is used as a guideline to cover: imaging (CT, MR, PET), treatment planning (medical and physics treatment planning), dosimetric verification of treatment plans, positioning of the patient prior each treatment session using imaging devices, and the treatment itself with a medical linear accelerator.
Lernziele und Kompetenzen:
Students
Know the fundamental interactions of ionizing radiation with matter and the radiobiological basis of radiation therapy
Understand the main workflow of radiation therapy, i.e. can describe and explain individual workflow steps such as imaging, treatment planning, treatment delivery
