The Master module consists of a one-week theoretical part, two weeks of practical class and one week of student seminars/ student talks about immunological subjects developed by students. Genetically modified mouse models will be used in the practical class to study the role of essential genes in the immune system. The development of lymphocytes, the rearrangement of antigen receptors, signal transduction and immune responses (studied by ELISA and immune histology) will be analyzed in various mouse knockout lines. In parallel, students will study in the literature, how genetically modified mouse models helped to clarify basic mechanisms and to develop new concepts in immunological research.
