Contents
Pervasive Computing, also called Ubiquitous Computing, is an emerging computing paradigm. It comprises billions computing devices integrated into everyday objects and connected into a global communication network that is orders of magnitude larger than the Internet today. These devices measure environmental characteristics, exchange information about their surroundings and interact with people in many different ways, such that most of the time people are even not aware that they are using computers. Pervasive computing has applications in commerce, health care, environment monitoring, social networking, learning and gaming.

In this course we will look at the visions and future scenarios of Pervasive Computing from the security and privacy point of view. We will consider security mechanisms and privacy concerns of the present-day technologies that enable these visions, such as smartphones, GSM, WLAN, RFID, vehicular networks and sensor networks, and also novel security and privacy concepts that are specially designed for pervasive computing environments.

The lecture and the exercise take place at the consecutive time blocks (14:15 - 15:45 and 16:15 - 17:45) in the same lecture room. The exercises will mostly consist of guest talks by experts on important topics. Most guest talks will concentrate on practical issues. The participants will be given necessary information and opportunity for practicing the skills mentioned in the guest talks. The exercises will be discussed in the class or online on the StudOn platform.

The attendance for this course is not compulsory (es gibt keine Anwesenheitspflicht), but the final examinations will cover topics of both, regular lectures and guest talks. Slides will be provided in StudOn one day after the corresponding lecture or exercise.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On at least four occasions (31.10., 5.12., 19.12., 09.01.), either the times for the lecture and the exercise will be interchanged, or there will be two guest talks on the same day. Sometimes the 90-minutes blocks will start at 14:00, 14:30 or 16:00. These changes are due to the restricted time schedules of the guest lecturers.

Recommended literature
F. Stajano: Security for Ubiquitous Computing.
Other books and papers will be presented during the lecture.
