Inhalt:
This course teaches students how to perform research work and how to publish the results. The goal is to prepare students for a Bachelor or Master research thesis. The course covers the following topics:
Science and society
The research process
Exploratory research
Confirmatory research
Writing a thesis/paper
Scientific community
The course can be taken in two variants. The 5 ECTS version combines lectures with homework and exercises. This involves reading, writing, and evaluating research papers. The 10 ECTS version adds a project to the 5 ECTS version. The project is provided either by an industry partner or by the professorship. It is either a qualitative or quantitative research question. Student teams will perform the research necessary to answer the question, write a (short) research paper about it, and make a final presentation. The first session of the winter semester 2015/16 has been recorded and can be viewed here: http://wp.me/pDU66-27S; feel free to watch it to get an impression of the course. In addition to the traditional classroom setting, the course may be offered online (through Adobe Connect at https://webconf.vc.dfn.de/dirkriehle). Class is run as a 3h block. For the schedule see http://goo.gl/VqoFO. The schedule spreadsheet contains a link to the StudOn course section. To get a chance for a seat in the course, please sign-up on StudOn at least two weeks before classes start. We expect to inform you the week before whether you got a seat in the course or not.
