Contents
After discussing the foundations of the interaction of radiation and matter and radiation biology, the lecture focuses on the medical physics aspects of the individual steps of a radiation therapy treatment, namely:
Imaging (CT, MR, PET) and segmentation (incl. image registration)
Medical linear accelerators (LINACs)
Treatment planning (optimization, dose calculation algorithms)
Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
Patient positioning (surface imaging, Cone-Beam CT, ultrasound, …)
Management of organ motion
Quality assurance and verification (dosimetry, detectors, adaptive radiation therapy)
Proton and ion beam therapy
Brachytherapy
Hyperthermia
