- Participation in the first lecture on 7th April (Monday) at 8:30 is mandatory.
If you cannot participate, please write an email to Zinaida Benenson beforehand.The number of participants in the lecture and the corresponding exercise is limited to 25 participants. Registration in StudOn will be opened till 3rd of April. Please write a short application for the course in plain text format. In case we have too many participants, we are going to choose them on the grounds of their applications. Please mention following things:

Currently pursued degree (e.g., Bachelor/Master) and Semester
Computer security related courses that you took in the past (e.g., courses offered by LS Informatik 1, IT security classes at other universities, cryptology)
Other experiences with IT security
You will be notified about the selection result on 4th of April (at the latest). Participation in exercise is mandatory.
The goal of the exercise is to give the participants hands-on experience in working with non-technical users and understanding how these users think about security. Students will be required to read 1-2 papers for each exercise and discuss them in the class. They will also have to conduct small experiments and surveys as homework.

- People are often said to be "the weakest link” in IT-Security measures. This course offers insight into how security of computer systems is affected by people that interact with these systems.
Special attention will be paid to complex environments such as companies, governmental organizations and healthcare systems.
The course will cover the following topics:
Terminology of security and privacy, personal and private data, legal background
Usability of security measures (password policies, security settings, security warnings)
Deception techniques (e.g., phishing, social engineering)
Attitudes to privacy
Risk management in complex environments
Interplay of safety and security in complex systems
Economics of security and privacy
Security awareness training
