- Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches
On the 20th of October at 12:30 an organisational/introductory lecture will be given in which the topics of the course will be presented and allocated. These allocations will be made on a "first come, first served" basis and it is therefore important for you to attend this session. Knowledge of probability theory and rudimentary statistics will be helpful, however are not expected. A basic introductory lecture in these topics will be provided at the start of the course. It is expected that in the duration of the class, each participant will present a 45 minute presentation on his/her allocated topic. Following the presentation, it is expected that the presenter will lead a 45 minute discussion on the topic. Note that a software-based demonstration related to the topic is encouraged. One week prior to the presentation, the participant must send his/her intended presentation to the course lecturers via email.
- Inhalt
Schlüsselthemen sind u.A.:
The course will cover a wide range of topics relevant to the overarching theme of data and text mining, particularly with regards to its use in the modern Internet-enabled environment. Key topics of the course will include the following:
Information Retrieval including classical methods such as the Vector-Space model and more modern approaches based on probability theory
Extracting and making use of raw data
Clustering, classification and data analysis
Related subjects such as recommender systems, dimensionality reduction and natural language processing
