- Murder, psychosis, paranoia, violence, greed, sexual perversion, cool killers, sexy femmes fatales, and hardboiled detectives – American noir paints a truly different picture of the US. Mostly associated with crime fiction, American noir calls attention to the dark side of the American dream. In this seminar, we will discuss this multilayered darkness. Furthermore, we will seek to clarify why noir has been so popular in literature and film.
We will read the following novels: Raymond Chandler, The Big Sleep
Jim Thompson, The Killer Inside Me
James Ellroy, Silent Terror
