Contents:
In this seminar, topics in modern particle physics and astrophysics will be discussed. Participants will present their topic of choice in a seminar talk and have a discussion with the audience. Suitable topics will be provided by the supervisors.

  • Acoustic detection of high energy neutrinos

  • Search for the neutrino-less double beta decay

  • Supernova neutrinos: Production and detection

  • News and open questions in neutrino physics

  • Magnetic monopoles

  • Tests of General Relativity with binary pulsars

  • Measuring Black Hole Masses with Reverberation Mapping

  • Cryogenic X-ray Detectors

  • Modern Astronomical Observatories I: The Hubble Space Telescope

  • Modern Astronomical Observatories II: ESO's Very Large Telescope

  • The evolution of massive stars into core collapse supernovae and Gamma-ray bursts

  • Particle Dark Matter I: Methods for direct detection

  • The discovery of the positron

  • Particle Dark Matter II: Methods for indirect detection
