- Contents
- At first the students will get an introduction to ground-based gamma-ray astronomy and will then use this knowledge for analysing real data sets by themselves. Modern analysis software will be used for this purpose. To sum up their results the students will write a homework assignment of about 5 pages. It is supposed to resemble a publication in a major scientific journal.
Activites include:
Overview of particles in cosmic rays
Introduction to ground-based gamma-ray astronomy with imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs)
Observation of gamma-ray sources
Analysis of data with ROOT-based software packages
Understanding the quality of the taken data
Interpretation of results
Writing a scientific publication
