Modellierung, Emulation und Vorhersage der Charakteristika drahtloser Kanäle in heterogenen Netzen

In wireless mobile communications, link errors severely affect the quality of the services due to the high error probability and the specific error characteristics (burst errors) in the radio access part of the network. The success of mobile services depends on providing QoS assurance in wireless environments. Thus the access network QoS gains in importance compared to the transport network QoS. The goal of the project "MobQoS" is to enhance the QoS measurements in heterogeneous communication networks. For this purpose the channel characteristics (especially of radio channels) are to be modelled including the behaviour of the transmission system (error control etc.).
The project focuses on modeling, emulation, measurement and prediction of radio channels. In sophisticated test environments modern wireless technologies (UMTS, WiMAX etc.) are analyzed with regard to efficient and general modeling and emulation. An emulator will be designed for testing IP networks including wireless transmission sections with open interfaces that allows to generate IP network performance as in real environments. Another main task contains measurement and prediction of the underlying radio channel behaviour. For this purpose a QoS Agent for the mobile device is developed that measures, evaluates, predicts and signalises (preferably in real-time) the channel characterstics which can be used for adaptive control in next generation networks (including billing, service or channel control).
