FOR 1508 BATS Project No. 3: Inter-system Optimization of Data-stream Queries

This project of the research unit seeks to provide the biologists with an abstract view of the data that are available in the sensor net of the bats. In that view properties like precision and collection costs are also visible. These data are not static, but are continuously transferred from the observation of the bats. The biologists can define their evaluations as queries in a descriptive fashion, that is, without any reference to technical details. It allows them to extract interesting aspects of bat behavior from the data. The project will execute the queries as efficiently as possible. In doing so, information on what is really needed will be given to the system's components (sensors, processors, operating system, network, communication units), so that they can save resources and provide only those data that are actually needed to generate the responses for the queries.
