• Electrons in vacuum and in semiconductors

• Electronic transport in periodic potentials I - Boltzmann transport and scattering processes

• Electronic transport in periodic potentials II - Bloch phenomena & resonant tunneling

• High power femtosecond lasers

• Optical pump & probe experiments with short laser pulses

• High speed electronics (fast switching; FETs)

• Electron acceleration at dielectric structures

• High speed electronics (towards THz-electronics; nipnip - SL / UTC-diodes)

• From photo-effect to multi photon physics

• Generation of higher harmonics and attosecond-pulses

• Electrons in graphene

• Plasmonics

• Strong field physics in solids

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

Students

• comprehend an interesting physical topic in a short time frame

• identify and interpret the appropriate literature

• select and organize the relevant information for the presentation

• compose a presentation on the topic at the appropriate level for the audience

• use the appropriate presentation techniques and tools

• criticize and defend the topic in a scientific discussion
