Inhalt:

This course teaches students how to perform scientific research for their final thesis or a research paper. The goal is to prepare students for a Bachelor or Master research thesis.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Science and society

  • The research process

  • Exploratory research

  • Confirmatory research

  • Writing a thesis/paper

  • The scientific community

Students can choose one or both of two components:

  • VUE (lecture + exercise), 4 SWS, 5 ECTS. VUE combines lectures with homework and exercises. VUE is run as a 3h block.

  • PROJ (small research project), 2 SWS, 5 ECTS. In PROJ, students perform a small research project, either individually or in teams. The available projects will be presented at the beginning of the course. Students perform the research, write a paper, and hold a presentation about their work.

If you only want to take OSS-NYT-PROJ please still come to OSS-NYT-VUE class on the first day to learn about the projects.
