Contents
This is a student seminar to learn about recent topics in astrophysics by the study of actual scientific papers. The class is for master's and PhD students with some background in physics. Prior knowledge in astrophysics is not necessary. The class will be in English.

• identify and interpret the appropriate literature

• select and organize the relevant information for the presentation

• compose a presentation on the topic at the appropriate level for the audience

• give a presentation to a scientific audience and use the appropriate presentation techniques and tools

• criticize and defend the topic in a scientific discussion

Primary literature will be provided by the supervisors of the individual topics.

Bemerkung:

The topics of the Journal club will be typically linked to the ECAP seminar that will follow the journal club:

We usually ask the speakers to suggest several introductory papers related to their presentation at the seminar. We also ask the seminar speakers to come to the Journal club as well.
To get credits for the class, each student will have to make two presentations (~ 20 - 25 min). The presentations are not graded, the only requirement is to make two presentations during the semester.
