Inhalt
Phonetics 1 is a 45-minute lecture on the basic principles of the production and use of sounds in English. The course introduces and analyses the sound inventory of English from the perspective of German learners of English at university level. Students learn about the physiology of sound production as well as phenomena of connected speech such as linking, weakening and assimilation. Although no active phonetic transcription is required, students are expected to develop a receptive command of IPA principles and symbols.
