- Phonetics 2/3 is a 90-minute course which acts as combined sequel to the theory lecture (Phonetics 1), which students are expected to have completed before they tackle the more practical follow-up courses Phonetics 2 and 3.
Phonetics 2/3 focuses both on the kinds of pronunciation errors commonly made by German speakers of English, and on how to overcome them. Students are confronted with recordings ranging from a strong German accent displaying all the typical pronunciation problems, up to the performance of very advanced learners. This is followed up by pronunciation practice in a multimedia language laboratory with the help of the pronunciation tool SoundAdvice, which has been designed to maximise student activity. Each student's individual pronunciation weaknesses are identified and addressed under the regular supervision of the teacher. (Note that Phonetics 3 cannot be taken separately but only in conjunction with Phonetics 2.) Vertiefungsmodul Language (UfE)
