- For admission to the basic course on "Particle Technology I" no special prerequisites have to be met.
- Contents
- This lecture introduces into the fundamentals of Particle Technology. We start with particle characterization, i.e. the definition particle size and shape. Then the motion of single particles in fluids is described based on the equation of motion. Particle ensembles are introduced and described by the formalism of particle size distributions. On this basis, we deal with separation of particles. The chapter on mixing repeats some basic statistics. Mixing and stirring in fluids is introduced by means of dimensional analysis. As examples for interactions in particulate systems we introduce wetting and solid-liquid separation and adhesion as the basis of agglomeration. Comminution is treated as an example for particle production. The dynamics of particulate systems is modelled by population balances. Characterization of packings, the flow through packings, fluidization, pneumatic transport and a few basics of powder flow are closing this lecture.
