- Inhalt
- The seminar will take place from the 12th - 16th of July during the Foreign Affairs Festival in Berlin. We will attend several shows at the festival and subsequently discuss the performances by applying different approaches to performances analysis prominent in the German field of Theatre and Performance Studies (e.g. by Erika Fischer-Lichte, Patrick Pavis and Isa Wortelkamp).
Our discussions will explore a range of diverse questions such as: What means are used to create specific atmospheres? How do artists work with the audience? How can analytical tools help us to enhance our own artistic work? In what ways do aesthetic experiences influence our own processes of creation? Is it possible to create a performance space in which chaos, disorientation, confusion and monsters reign - a space where we are allowed to lose control?
Please note: "To attend the seminar "Performance Analysis" you have to take part in the excursion to the Foreign Affairs Festival Berlin." Texts will be provided in advance. It is essential and obligatory to have read them before the start of the seminar.
To pass the class it is mandatory to write three short essays (500 to
1000 words). In each essay you will analyse a different show and use a different method of analysis:
