- Sprachliches Handeln ist immer eingebettet in soziale Strukturen, die das kommunikative Verhalten von Sprecherinnen und Sprechern beeinflussen.
Die Soziolinguistik betrachtet Sprache nicht als statisches System, sondern untersucht ihre soziale Bedeutung und Variabilität in vielfältigen Gebrauchskontexten. Damit weist die Soziolinguistik enge Bezüge zur Variationslinguistik und Dialektologie auf. Dieses Kolleg zeichnet die Entwicklung und die wichtigsten Strömungen der internationalen sowie der germanistischen Soziolinguistik nach und zeigt dabei deren Bezüge zu den genannten linguistischen Nachbardisziplinen auf. Auch das Potential der Historischen Soziolinguistik wird im Kurs thematisiert. Die theoretischen Ausführungen werden dabei stets begleitet von Einblicken in empirische Untersuchungen und aktuelle Forschungsprojekte.
