- Das Hauptseminar gehört in den folgenden Studiengängen jeweils zu folgenden Modulen:
•MA North American Studies - Literature: 5, 8
•MA The Americas/Las Américas: Modul 4
•MA Literaturstudien – intermedial und interkulturell: Module 4,5,7 und 8
•BA English and American Studies: Hauptmodul A Literature oder Culture. (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Zwischenmodul II)
•Für BA-Studierende ist an diesen Kurs auch eine "Independent Study Group" angeschlossen.
•Lehramt Englisch an Gymnasien (neu): Hauptmodul L-GYM Literature. (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Zwischenmodul Literature)

- Inhalt
- In this seminar, we will discuss some of the newly acclaimed fictions of the postcolonial world – from diverse locations, yet with distinct ties to North America. Much (if not all) contemporary writing can, in fact, be described as postcolonial in the widest sense, and it is the relevance of this category, along with other categories, such as world literature, planetary literature, and transnational fiction, which we will test in our readings and discussions. How do the novels ‘remember‘ histories of colonialism and reflect on more recent processes of globalization? How do they connect their various settings that at times seem to span the entire globe? How do they – formally, aesthetically, and thematically – negotiate the politics of race, class, and gender? And how can they be positioned with regard to the market value of postcolonial allure and discussions of literary value? These are some of the questions we will address with regard to the five novels listed below. Additional material (critical essays, reviews, and interviews) will be available on studon.
