- Inhalt
- Taking its cue from Paul Gilroy's conception of the "Black Atlantic" (1993) and its critical appropriations in Canadian literary criticism, this seminar focuses on Black Canadian literature and its position, transnational connections, and entanglements within the Atlantic world and diasporic cultures. We will analyze and discuss selected texts of different genres (slave narratives, novels, drama, poetry) that negotiate (the history of) slavery and its continuing reverberations in Canadian culture, (im)migration to Canada as well as issues of race, ethnicity, and multiculturalism.
