- Inhalt
- This course will deal with two topics which will be approached both from a theoretical point of view as well as in the form of actual sentence analyses and transcription exercises. Concerning syntax, we will focus on the model provided by the Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language by Quirk et al. (1985) and compare it with the valency-based model by Herbst and Schüller (2008) (ISAAVA). With respect to phonological transcription, we will discuss various theoretic aspects such as stress and strong and weak forms but the general focus will be on providing a forum for really exercising phonological transcription. Participants must be prepared to actively participate in class by presenting their own analyses.
