- Inhalt
- Contrastive linguistics is a subdiscipline of linguistics which compares the similarities and differences between individual languages. To begin with, we will determine if and how languages can be compared at all. The course then places its focus on English and German and discusses contrastive aspects both from a theoretical and an applied perspective at various levels of the two languages’ linguistic systems (e.g. phonology, lexis and syntax). The course reader will be König and Gast’s Understanding English–German Contrasts. Participants are expected to carry out contrastive empirical studies for their coursework.
